Cambodia Casinos
There is an appealing background to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den gaming is against the law. Eight casinos are based in a relatively tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 1700, and although visas are apparently needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau casino, features one hundred and fifty slots and 60 table games. The Naga casino is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the common table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel compound that features a number of comforts aside from the casino, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight table games.
