Cambodia Casinos
There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling den gaming is not permitted. Eight casinos are established in a relatively small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of most borders.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat casino, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that highlights many amenities in addition to the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 table games.
